According to CIOB the Gulf emirate of Dubai is set to build a city of life-size replicas of the 7 wonders of the world.
These will include the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Great Wall of China.
Each ‘wonder’ will house anything from coffee shops and offices to luxury apartments and hotels and will be part of a falcon-shaped complex covering 4 million square metres (the falcon being the United Arab Emirates’ symbol).
The project, costing an estimated US$1.5 billion is the latest addition to the Dubailand development, a government-led initiative to help promote tourism, and will be completed by the Falcon City of Wonders Company, owned by local businessman Salem al Moosa.
Construction is expected to begin in 2006.
