Technical and management support services provider, AECOM has been chosen as the lead design sub-consultant under a joint venture for the design, construction and finance of a spur line and passenger train station under Air Rail Link (ARL) of Ontario.
This ARL will connect the present Georgetown GO transit line with two busy transportation hubs of the city namely, Toronto Pearson International Airport and Union Station Downtown.
Metrolinx is the government agency that has been charged with the responsibility of integrated transportation planning for Greater Toronto Hamilton Area chose the Airlinx Transit Partners consortium for a joint venture worth CA$129 million. The alternative financing and procurement delivery model of Ontario will be used to deliver the spur line. AECOM, which has been chosen as the lead designer, will be responsible for providing structural, architectural and rail expertise and providing utility relocation and a design that is sensitive to the environment.
The spur line will span a distance of 3 km and will link the Kitchener line of GO Transit with Toronto Pearson Terminal 1. Services that are included in the contract are construction of a new elevated guideway, relocation of current facilities, provisioning of future electrification of ARL, providing tracks on high level bridges and ensuring the smooth operation of the capital works program undertaken by Greater Toronto Airport Authority.
