ThyssenKrupp Elevator has reached an agreement to supply and install 10 moving walks, 38 escalators and 95 elevators for Abu Dhabi’s Yas Mall project, a 235,000-square-meter retail and leisure complex.
The Yas Mall will be the biggest shopping center in Abu Dhabi and the second-biggest center in the United Arab Emirates.
The new shopping center will feature a 14 screen multiplex cinema, more than 450 shops and restaurants, about 10,000 parking spaces and different entertainment facilities for children as well as adults. It is being constructed close to the “Ferrari World” theme park and the Formula 1 circuit. Construction is expected to be completed at the end of 2013.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s 143 units will be set up with the latest technology to guide and control visitors in the building. The machine-room-less elevators will assure availability and reliability. The 95 elevators will be powered by a gearless drive mechanism, located above the shaft, featuring high efficiency, low maintenance requirements and compact dimensions. The passenger elevators’ interiors are designed with back-painted or clear glass and stainless steel paneling together with LED lighting to provide a suitable atmosphere as passengers travel to different floors.
Escalators and moving walks also make passenger transportation more flexible and easy in the new shopping center. They carry passengers to their destination with ease and without any waiting time. One unique and efficient feature of the units is that when not in use, they will stop and thus reduce energy consumption to a minimum in standby mode.
Elevators, escalators and moving walks will be remotely operated by a central monitoring system. Continual examination of operating data will assure accurate diagnoses, eliminate unnecessary trips and make service call-outs more effective.
