Modified Real wood from Material Connexion named Perennial Wood has been awarded the Honourable Mention for the MEDIUM Award for Material of the Year. The award is presented to materials that provide substantial contributions to the economy, industry and society on the whole through innovations and design.
Perennial Wood has been modified through the use of TruLast Technology under which a physical barrier is provided within the wood for protection against movement, decay and rot. Perennial Wood is resistant to shrinking and swelling by three times as compared to regular wood without compromising on the quality of the wood. The announcement for the award was made at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair held in New York and Material Connexion will display its Perennial Wood at its headquarters in New York.
While Material Connexion is a materials and innovation consultant supplying the material for various applications around the world, Perennial Wood is manufactured by Eastman Chemical Company which specialises in acetylating wood pulp and is headquartered in Kingsport, Tenn. According to the Director of Perennial Wood, Baum Crain, the material is ideal for suppliers and manufacturers who are looking for sustainable, cost effective and high-quality materials for their products. He also added that Perennial Wood is suitable for a wide range of applications such as furniture, wood, doors, siding and trim and is a valid alternative to tropical hardwood, plastic and composite materials.
