Bird Construction has received various contracts totalling to $235 million. The projects are spread over different locations in the markets in which the company operates presently. One of the main projects includes the Early Works Civil Program of the Voyageur Upgrader Project awarded by Suncor Energy. The program is likely to commence by May 2012 and be completed by the spring of 2013.
Vale Inco has also awarded a significant project to the company for the construction of an area to store residues and dams for the nickel plant located in Long Harbour, Newfoundland. According to project specifications, the company will be responsible for the construction of spillways, dams and diversion channels and will also take up the maintenance of the roads that provide access to the plant. Construction for this project is expected to begin very soon and be completed by the end of 2012. St Francis Xavier University has awarded a fixed price contract under which Bird Construction will build two four storey buildings with each containing 160 beds for the University campus. Under this project the company will build lobbies, laundry, lounges and other facilities which are all likely to be completed by the spring of 2013.
Other projects are a fixed price contract awarded by Manitoba Health where Bird Construction will take up the renovation of the facility that is used presently by Special Services for Children and Youth. This project will commence with immediate effect and is likely to be completed by 2013. Contracts from Wal-Mart, Canad Inns and the City of Airdie, Alberta have also been taken into consideration for the company’s backlog during the second quarter of 2012.
