The Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) has collaborated with the Residential & Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario (RCCAO) and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to conduct a pilot study on the Wellington County Bridges.
The association will carry out this study to establish the existing infrastructure in the County and the municipalities in the constituent and will assess the alternative delivery methods.
For the study will be carried out a total cost of $100,000 of which funds amounting to $50,000 will be provided by MTO and the remaining will be provided by OGRA and RCCAO. A project team will be organised which will contain representatives from MTO, OGRA, RCCAO and Wellington County. The study will be conducted in various phases under which the first three stages will be spent in the development of a bridge asset management plan. The fourth phase will evaluate the various alternative options for delivery such as bridge bundling and the fifth and final phase will be taken up for conclusions and recommendations. The final draft of the report will be provided to OGRA members.
According to the Executive Director of OGRA Joe Tiernay it is important to look at new methods through which municipalities can maintain and alter or replace their bridges. The Association has already carried out similar Municipal dataworks, training and supportive work for municipalities in Ontario.
