Ballast Nedam will be responsible for the construction of a new sustainable municipal office in Venlo. The contracting partner for this project will be Laudy Construction & Development and the construction work will be carried out by Laudy and Ballast Nedam Building and Development Region South.
As per the contract, Ballast Nedam will carry out the mechanical engineering, lift and electrical installation work. The €35 million project is likely to be completed by 2014.
The 13,500 m2 building will be situated between Molensingel, Veilingstraat, Eindhovenseweg, and Professor Gelissensingel. The building will contain an underground car park, which will have a capacity to accommodate 400 cars and will be spread over three levels. Certain part of the workstations will be located in the Nedinsco building located adjacent.
The Cradle-to-Cradle design approach has been adopted while designing the green features of the building. Sustainable features of the building will include an air purification system, an underground car park, which will use pre-heated air during the winter and cool the same during summer. The building will also feature a rainwater collection system under which rainwater will be purified through a plant filter and reused as rinsing water. Maximum use of natural daylight has been encouraged in the building. Integrated solar cells in the façade and roof will fulfil the energy needs of the building. The size and shape of the building have been designed in such a manner so as to allow natural air flow into the building, and all the materials in the building are suited for re use.
