Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to Build New Clinical Sciences Building in its Campus

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has announced that it will construct an additional research building in its campus in Burnet. The clinical sciences building will consist of 15 stories and will be located in Sabin Way and will be integrated along with the Cincinnati Children’s research building, which was built in 2007.

The project is likely to cost $180 million and will be financed through future operating cash flows, operating cash and investments and philanthropy. The new clinical sciences building will cover an area of 425,000sq. ft and will feature in-house laboratories, an outpatient clinic, imaging facility for clinical trials and an office space for clinical staff that are involved in clinical research and other supporting infrastructure. Construction of the new building is expected to commence in June 2012 and is likely to be completed by summer of 2015. Messer Construction is the builder for this project and the architects are GBBN, GPR and HDR.

According to Arnold Strauss, MD, Director of the Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation, investigators continuously develop and evaluate breakthrough discoveries and they require working in close collaboration with clinical staff to see how their discoveries can be applied to achieve the maximum results. He also added that this clinical sciences building will serve as a link between the discoveries made and their practical applications. The new space will feature the world’s leading and high quality researchers, clinicians and innovators.
