The East Village Office of US-based design company LPA has received LEED Gold certification. The office is located in Wonder Bread building located in 14th street.
For the purpose of certification, existing grain silos have been converted into collaboration pods that have open roofs to allow natural day light. Windows have been made operable in order to allow natural breeze into the office. The employees can also make use of a sliding barn door, which leads to a view of Petco Park. The design of interior and exterior office collaboration and sign pods have been done using cold, rolled steel. Track lighting along with new energy efficient light fixtures has been used. The concrete flooring of the building has been retained. Manholes and additional flooring material have been added only where necessary. Private offices have been eliminated and workstations have been designed to make them more collaborative and communicative. The collaborative workstations have been made with recycled material purchased from local vendors in blanket packages in order to avoid packing material wastage. Tables and workstations are removable and used for writing during brainstorming sessions or adhoc meetings.
