EPA Recognises 3M LeadCheck Swabs for Drywall and Plaster

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially recognised 3M LeadCheck Swabs for use on plaster and drywall. 3M LeadCheck Swabs were initially available for use on metal and painted wood.

Now with added applications to the swab, certified renovators can test for lead and ensure compliance to Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) through a single kit. In order to achieve the recognition, 3M LeadCheck Swabs were put through intense testing in terms of average operating time of the kit, usage of chemicals and the average cost involved.

Since 2010, certification is required for contractors who are engaged in painting, repair and renovation in homes which were built before 1978, daycare facilities and schools. This rule was implemented by EPA to prevent lead poisoning. EPA certified LeadCheck Swabs help in detecting the presence of lead-based paint on drywall, plaster, metal and wood. The swabs have the capability of detecting lead presence within 30 s making the product a rapid and highly cost-effective detection tool available in the market. The LeadCheck Swabs are commonly available in all paint and hardware stores and home centres. The primary focus of the company in the development of this product was to make the testing process easier and cost effective for contractors.
