Manufacturer of high-performance architectural products, Construction Specialties has officially opened its new LEED Silver certified office in Hughesville. The new office covers an area of 8,748 sq.ft and is the first project in Lycoming County to be certified by LEED.
The company formed an exclusive team including 60 of the company’s LEED credentialed employees to oversee the certification process. The team used the 2009 LEED for Commercial Interiors Rating System for the renovation of an existing warehouse. It also recycled 97% of debris arising from construction. Various categories of the system such as water efficiency, materials and resources, sustainable sites, innovation in design and indoor environmental quality were thoroughly examined to find out how they could be used to add more points for certification. Major features of the building include motion sensitive lighting and high-performance HVAC system, which resulted in energy savings of 47% and 23% respectively and 58 window installation to allow natural light to flow into the building. Environmental Acoustics used latest noise reduction techniques to provide more acoustic comfort to the company’s employees.
The company worked with local contractors and design companies to create a warehouse that imbibes communal atmosphere while retaining the industrial feature of a warehouse. The Hughesville facility will now serve as both a manufacturing facility for the company’s interior wall protection line and as an office to the personnel working in that particular line, who will be transferred from its current facility in Muncy.
