CTA Construction to Set up New Elementary School in Douglas

Waltham based general contracting firm, CTA Construction will construct a new elementary school for grades 2-5, renovate an intermediate elementary school in Douglas, and will also construct a new roadway and athletic fields. School and municipal officials participated in a formal ground breaking ceremony for the $36.2 million project. The project has been designed by DiNisco Design Partnership in Boston.

Douglas Elementary School

The new elementary school will cover an area of 83,100 sq. ft. and will be part of the Model School Program from the state. Renovation will be done for an intermediate elementary school for grades 6-8. Additional features of the building will include a new rood and heating system. A roadway in the form of a loop will be constructed to facilitate pick up and drop children on either side of the road. Two playing fields along with a softball field and an additional track will also be constructed for running and walking. The track will have another playing field in the interior. CTA Construction presented a proposal to save $2.6 million in taxes in order to win this contract.

Apart from the Douglas school, the company will also construct a new school in Winchester. Other projects of the company include the Tahanto Regional Middle/High School in Boylston and schools in Tewksbury, Maynard and Burlington. CTA Construction has undertaken more than 45 construction projects valued at a total of $700 million over the past 10 years. The Associated Builders and Contractors Massachusetts has awarded two Green building awards and a Merit award to CTA Construction in 2011.
