A local church in Cape Coral, Florida will construct a park covering an area of 100,000 sq.ft. Initially the church intended to build a worship auditorium for an amount of $15 million.
However keeping the recent trend of unemployment in mind, the church decided to build this fellowship park. The park is open to the public and will consist of an amphitheatre, four playgrounds for children, fields for sports and other purposes and a splash pad. It will also consist of a jogging trail, café and pavilion, zip line and common areas.
According to the lead Pastor of the church Wes Furlong, when the church endeavoured to assess the community in terms of unemployment it was found out that around 350 children are homeless in the city. Though the capacity of the church is overflowing and demands a new facility, the church decided to provide a fellowship park to its citizens where families can play, and gather for community events and concerts. The church is also providing resources for those who have lost their homes. It is also carrying out a program called “Feeding Cape Coral” under which it provides around 25,000 food items to different pantries in the city. It also plans to open a Centre for Family Life for providing multi-media resources to parents, married couples and other people who are suffering from addictions and other issues in life.
