The US Green Building Council has awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification to Cambridge Investment Research, a privately owned broker dealer, for its commercial building located in Fairfield.
The company achieved this certification by employing efficient usage of water, lighting and energy and using environmentally friendly materials. The company was also involved in conducting green housekeeping programmes and educational outreach programmes.
According to the President and CEO of Cambridge, Rick Fedrizzi, the certification acquired by the company has enabled it to lead by example and has challenged the industry to move faster towards being environmentally friendly. Buildings that are certified by LEED enable cost savings to families and taxpayers, result in lesser greenhouse emissions and contribute to environmental conservation. Cambridge Investment Research was chosen for LEED certification based on various features used in its building such as the Geothermal HVAC system, low emission carpet and paint, reserved parking space for car poolers and high MPG vehicles, fixtures that consume less water, natural lights, reflective surface on the building and parking lot to reduce the heat island effect, good quality indoor air and non-toxic green cleaning programme.
