Skanska Achieves Construction Contract for a US$ 87 M Worth Project

The civil construction business unit of Skanska USA recently declared that it has accepted a project contract for the Second Avenue Subway Systems project in New York City, offered by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The construction project is estimated to be US$ 262 M.

LK Comstock, a subsidiary of RailWorks will associate with Skanska to construct the track and systems for the Phase I of Second Avenue Subway project.

The initiative consists of the installation of train signals, track, communications systems and traction power that will link 105th Street and the subway station at 63rd Street. Furthermore, the project upgrades is concerned with improving the current systems and facilities that will provide access to the Second Avenue Subway system. Three rail cross-overs will also be constructed along this route that will facilitate switch-tracking in case of emergencies.

The construction of Phase I of the Second Avenue Subway project is Skanska’s third operation. The construction will be initiated in February 2012 and is expected to complete its construction by the fall of 2016.
