AltusGroup precasters’ CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels were employed to construct two buildings that won two distinguished awards in 2011 including the Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) Design Awards and the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Awards.
Tucker High School, Tucker, Ga., by AltusGroup precaster Metromont Corporation, Hiram, Ga., was presented awards by American Concrete Institute and Precast Concrete Institute in 2011
AltusGroup precaster, Metromont, Hiram, Ga provided 210,000 sq. ft. of its CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels for the construction of $66 M worth, 340,000 square-foot, Tucker High School, Tucker, Ga. Besides being presented with the PCI Design Award for ‘Best All Precast Solution’ in September 2011, this building also won the premier position at the Georgia Chapter ACI awards banquet for low-rise buildings in January 2011.
The panels are made up of two concrete wythes that remain detached by continuous insulation (ci) and attached by C-GRID carbon fiber grid shear trusses. The panels are thermally efficient and structurally composite as a whole. The utilization of panels minimized the operating costs, although retaining the architectural elegance and enabled the facility to achieve 30% increase in ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Standards. The production of the panels in a controlled factory environment off-site facilitates sooner construction.
The award- winning, $10M worth 40,000 square-foot Indiana University Innovation Center, Bloomington, Ind, utilized CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels from AltusGroup precaster High Concrete Group, Denver, Pa. The building achieved co-winner ‘Best University Project’ for the 2011 PCI Design Awards.
