PPG Industries has launched SUNGATE 600 glass, a low-emissivity glass specially designed to retain furnace and solar heat in cold, northern climates.
Sungate 600 glass is made up of a pyrolitic coating designed for being used in exposed No.4 surface of an insulating glass unit (IGU). The coating is chemically bonded to the molten glass and has excellent durability. Sungate 600 glass has a relatively smooth surface due to its star-crystalline structure.
When installed inside an IGU, the Sungate 600 glass enables capturing of heat from the winter sun and furnace that provides warmth to the living spaces, with minimal energy consumption during winter.
PPG’s Sungate 600 glass in combination with SOLARBAN coated glasses operates to meet the R-5 insulating value, without employing triple-glazing. The integration of Sungate 600 coated glass on the IGU’s No. 4 surface with Solarban 60 coated glass, divided by half-inch, argon-gas-filled space, offers a winter nighttime U-value of 0.20. Window manufacturers are being more benefited by this double-pane construction. It minimizes the need for triple-glazed windows requiring increased material costs and higher production. This new upgrade complies with the latest federal requirements for energy efficiency.
The objective of PPG Industries is to remain as a pioneer for coatings and other related specialty products. The company’s services have been improved with its achievement of leadership in innovation, sustainability and color. PPG serves a wide range of customers in construction markets, consumer products, industrial, and transportation businesses. Established in 1883, PPG has expanded its operation in over 60 countries worldwide with its global HQ located at Pittsburgh.
