New Construction Initiatives for the Design and Building of Utah Aquarium

The board of trustees at Utah Living Planet Aquarium selected Layton Construction and Beecher Walker Architects for the design development and construction of the new Living Planet Aquarium, to be constructed in Draper City.

Important statements of interest and qualifications required by the Living Planet Aquarium were obtained from renowned design teams and commercial contractors. This will contribute to the achievement of an elegant architecture for the 130,000 sq.ft building.

The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ragula Bhaskar says that the new Board, with its eminent executive members has witnessed the aquarium’s remarkable progress over the past last two years. The developments include land acquisition, fund raising, and state appropriations. The new aquarium anticipates being distinguished as one of the supreme aquariums in the Intermountain West.

Established in 2004 in a limited facility, the Aquarium has been experiencing rapid progress and growth. At present, the Sandy based 43,000 sq.ft aquarium accommodates and encourages over 375,000 visitors each year, offering the students at elementary schools across the state with resourceful science education. During the recession, the aquarium witnessed over 50% growth. The aquarium has been well-established and well-recognized among the local as well as global visitors. This achievement is the reflection of the donor support and strong leadership team.

According to the Founder & CEO Brent Andersen, the staff and members of the Living Planet Aquarium are currently focused with this new expansion, anticipates benefiting the residents of Utah with this new 130,000 sq.ft outstanding aquarium. This remarkable success owes to the labor of the dedicated team of volunteers, staff, and donors and its dynamic board of trustees who contributed to this distinguished educational, family-friendly centerpiece.
