More than 80 people, who were driven by a common commitment and vision to create energy-efficient affordable housing, took part in The Greening Affordable Housing Workshop in Ottawa. This seminar was part of the National Housing Day commemorations that are being observed across Canada to acknowledge the significance of affordable housing in different communities.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the Social Housing Services Corporation (SHSC) and the City of Ottawa jointly hosted The Greening Affordable Housing Workshop together with the community partners, The Registry and Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corporation (CCOC).
Housing developers, municipal officials and non-profit housing providers participated in the event to celebrate their achievement as well as share their experiences about housing providers who have cultivated green initiatives inside affordable housing and beyond the housing system.
Peter Friedmann, CMHC’ General Manager, said that the workshop was an illustration of how each one can share ideas and leverage expertise to develop affordable and sustainable housing. Janice Burelle, City of Ottawa’s Administrator, Housing Services Branch, said that this event has brought community leaders and housing providers together. He also added that the workshop has not only raised awareness but also exhibited the effect of green housing technology on social and affordable housing from different aspects.
At The Greening Affordable Housing Workshop, presenters shared their knowledge on building as well as refurbishing affordable housing that integrates renewable energy technology as well as support sustainable lifestyles.
