U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has given LEED Gold certification to Frito-Lay’s new distribution facility in Hawaii.
The design area of the facility is 55,000 sq. ft and is its first industrial construction located in Hawaii. USGBC awarded this LEED certification, which is the country’s top program for recognizing the design, operation and construction of high performance eco-friendly buildings, and the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) confirmed the certification.
The design of the building included LEED certification standards like energy efficiency. Exclusive features of the building and construction include the use of photovoltaics for producing 10% electricity for the facility, paved surfaces that are colored lightly for decreasing the heat island effect, energy management system for powering the facility equipment, roof parking to lessen the amount of paved site, highly efficient LED lighting in the parking region, energy efficient skylights and windows to supply ample daylight as well as reserved parking for energy efficient vehicles and carpools.
Materials were chosen that will ensure low levels of volatile organic compounds and from recycled content. Low-flow plumbing fixtures decreased the usage of water. Native plants having low maintenance were included in the design of the landscape.
The Haskell Company was the general and design build contractor for this distribution center.
U.S. Green Building Council in Washington, D.C. has been committed to recognize inexpensive and energy-saving eco-friendly buildings for a sustainable future of the nation.
