Vancouver Ready Mix, a ready-mix supply company based in Vancouver, British Columbia, has announced that it has been selected as the concrete grout supplier for the Vancouver City Central Transmission project by Michels Canada.
A difficult project that began at David Lam Park located in downtown Vancouver and ended at Laurel Street in South Vancouver needed the utilization of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to commission a power cable duct bank underneath False Creek. This project for BC Hydro comprised 230-kV underground transmission circuits extending for five miles, which include the HDD crossing measuring 2,789 ft. This trench-free technology reduces the environmental footprint.
This high-voltage system is the most important power project to be developed in Vancouver in the past three decades. It is one of the most difficult pipe pulls performed by Michels Canada and the largest duct bundle-grouting work ever done in the North American region.
Michels Canada’s Project Manager, Craig Vandaelle stated that the capability of Vancouver Ready Mix to address complicated batching and supply problems and its innovative thinking has helped the company to serve its customers better by providing products and services as per the specifications of the contract. The company’s entire project team appreciated the efforts taken by Dennis Baker in fulfilling the company’s requirements and helping it to execute its grouting plan successfully, Vandaelle added.
