Architectural Products Presents Two Innovation Awards to AltusGroup’s CarbonCast

Architectural Products, which is a trade magazine for the U.S. market, has presented the 2011 product innovation awards (PIA) to the CarbonCast Double Tees and the CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels from AltusGroup precasters. New C-GRID carbon fiber reinforcing is present in both the products in order to enhance the performance and allow less weight.

CarbonCast Insulated Wall Panel is a perfect system, as it ensures structural, moisture and thermal protection. The precast wall panels that are sandwiched, include two concrete Wythes that are isolated by continuous insulation (ci), and are united by C-GRID shear trusses for a composite panel, which are completely structural, with unique thermal efficiency.

The judging panel of the Architectural Products stated that the combined system materials may offer the manufacturing of a true green product for the building envelope systems.

CarbonCast Double Tees has employed C-GRID in the decking or flange of the structural member. C-GRID’s non-corrosive qualities have facilitated the precasters to utilize concrete cover in a low amount for decreasing 8% of the weight and ensuring cost reduction.

Judges said that this CarbonCast Double Tees has beenchosen based on its sustainability and its potential for enhancing the quality of construction, decreasing the base structural needs and also lowering the construction time.

CarbonCast technology has been awarded this PIA since its launch during 2003. This technology has received the ARCHITECT magazine’s R+D Award, Top 100 Products and Architectural Record from Buildings Magazine.
