Skanska has secured a contract to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for constructing a new natural gas thermal power plant, whose capacity is 550 MW, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The value of this construction project is USD 490 M, which will be a part of the order bookings for the 2011 fourth quarter. Petrobras, which is the main energy company in the globe, is the client.
The company will construct this thermal power plant at Baixada Fluminense, which is 350 km from São Paulo and 75 km away from Rio de Janeiro, in Seropédica. Skanska is the sole service provider of this project, which is the biggest contract for the company in Latin America.
Skanska will take responsibility for the fundamental design plan, comprehensive construction and engineering of the facilities, which includes electromechanical installations and civil works. Additionally, this project contract includes the acquisition of material and equipment. Furthermore, the company will extend support to commence and operate the thermal power plant.
The company has planned to start the project immediately and will complete this contract in the 2014 fourth quarter. At the time of project completion, there are estimated to be around 1500 employees.
