Renovation of New Dorchester Hotel Using LuminOre’s Composite Metal Alloy

The 45 Park Lane Hotel of Dorchester Collection in London has been recently revamped and is featuring architectural aspects not often seen on the exteriors of the buildings. The partnership with Situ Studio of New York, LuminOre and The Office of Thierry Despont altered the structure into a public art work. A public art element has to be incorporated in all the newly refurbished buildings in the Mayfair region.

45 Park Lane Hotel landmark features panels constructed with LuminOre's composite metal technology.

Thierry Despont envisaged to make rolling panels that simulate the water surface and reflects sunlight, in order to accomplish the designation of the artwork. The outcome was reached by the precision fabrication of LuminOre and completed with the LuminOre Composite nickel silver alloy. Situ Studio and Mr. Despont worked in order to build the fabrication system for 24 unique panels.

The panels were initially mentioned as solid metal panels. LuminOre and its exclusive metal procedure were specified by Situ Studio, which offered consultation for developing the design. LuminOre was commissioned by Situ for the panel fabrication and application of composite nickel and silver alloy in order to create a real metal surface.

Polyurethane resin was coated over 24 foam panels, which were then enclosed in metal and completed with hand-worked finish.

A sequence of rolling metal, external art elements, which hang from the hotel’s top to the ground floor, are the consequences. The results created an effect that was impossible without the exploitation of the lightweight composite metal technology of LuminOre. Wes Rozen of Situ has said that LuminOre's method forms a flawless real metal veneer layer. This homogenous metal cannot be differentiated from solid metal.

LuminOre completed other projects, including the structural elements for the Bellagio Hotel Las Vegas, Barney's San Francisco store, Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Hotel, Singapore store of Gucci and Louis Vuitton in Singapore.
