BASF Completes 25 Years of Admixture Technology for Ready-Mix Concrete Producers

The Construction Chemicals division of BASF has announced that its North American Admixture Systems business is celebrating the completion of 25 years of its novel DELVO Stabilizer. This is a hydration-controlling admixture product which recycles the concrete washwater and returned plastic concrete and offers measurable ecological and cost-effective savings for the producers of ready-mixed concrete.

This DELVO Stabilizer has been recently used in the concrete mix for monumental constructions such as the One World Trade Center in New York.

Recently, the DELVO HCA value calculator was released by BASF. Sustainability and economic reports for concrete manufacturers are being created by the BASF representatives, with this calculator. Using the BASF’s eco-efficiency analysis method, this calculator determines the environmental impact savings for concrete.

During 1986, BASF built the DELVO Stabilizer to deal with the challenges of two ready-mixed concrete manufacturers, which included the concrete washwater disposal from truck drums and the returned plastic concrete disposal. This product is utilized continuously in applications such as concrete wash water stabilization from truck drums during weekends or overnight, newly batched concrete stabilization for long-term periods, returned plastic concrete stabilization on the same day, new concrete conservation during transportation failure or job interruption and conventional concrete’s total set time control. This stabilizer is often used for the set time control of 4x4 concrete mixtures and pervious concrete.

The admixture technology ensures the formation of a protective barrier around cementitious materials making sure that fly ash, granulated slag and portland cement does not attain the initial set. Owing to the wash water and concrete waste reduction, this technology offers flexibility for planning the finishing and placing processes and ensures cost savings.

Besides DELVO stabilizer, BASF also provides an extensive range of tools, technologies and products for sustainable structures that contain BASF’s integrated durability-sustainability wizard. These tools assist the concrete producers, architects, engineers and contractors to determine the solution, which decreases the environmental and economical impact.
