The employees of Caterpillar along with the local and state officials and North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, have celebrated the official opening of the additions in construction of their Compact Construction Equipment operations facility in Sanford, North Carolina.
The adding of the 270,000-sq ft construction to the existing building will enable the company to augment its supply and fabrication capability. The new expansion will enable the company to cope with the increasing worldwide demand for its multi-terrain loaders, compact truck and skid steer being manufactured in Sanford. The facility when it becomes fully functional and operating at its peak capability will enable Caterpillar to employ 325 more workers in a period of five years. The company has earlier declared about constructing a lower powertrain parts facility in Winston-Salem, which is expected to provide employment to around 400 workers when it becomes fully functional.
According to Mary Bell, Vice President of Caterpillar, investment in construction is an element of long-term strategy of the company to manufacture value offering construction machines needed by the industry and thanked the state and local partners for their continued support.
Caterpillar is a producer of diesel-electric engines, industrial gas turbines, natural and diesel gas turbines and mining and construction equipment. The company existing for over 85 years has achieved a sales and revenues of $42.588 billion in 2010.
