Madison Marquette to Develop La Brea into Fashion Destination

Madison Marquette, a company that invests, develops and operates mixed-use and retail real estate properties and based at Washington, DC, has declared that it will be redeveloping the Continental Graphics building on La Brea into an inventive and creative address known as District La Brea.

The redevelopment project has 11 buildings that are undergoing reconstruction to have a complimentary blend of offices, food and retail facilities. La Brea is an 85,000 sq. ft construction on South La Brea Avenue and located between the 1st and 2nd streets. The first phase of the construction has already been finished and the second phase, which is currently underway, is anticipated to be completed by 2012.

According to Tom Gilmore, Madison Marquette’s Executive Vice President, the company is looking forward to expand little more into the SOHO segment that existed at the location. The area already has an assorted mix of restaurants, retailers and galleries, which also includes Pink Hot Dogs and La Brea Bakery. The remodeling project is more focused to develop the old 1930 construction into a mix of buildings and a destination for fashion products to match the regularly visited retail boutiques such as Undefeated, Stussy, Union and American Rag that lies across the street. The company is revitalizing the heritage construction by showcasing its exclusive steel beams, original brick walls, and exquisitely patterned wooden ceilings.

La Brea provides parking space for 125 cars in a three story parking construction over the corner of La Brea Ave and Second Street and another 44 space parking facility on First Street. The parking facility is considered as an extra asset to the project as well as to the adjacent commercial enterprises.
