Lend Lease, a global construction management company with considerable presence in New York City, is the privileged general contracting company for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum project at the site of World Trade Center in New York City.
The Memorial component of the construction was unveiled on 11th September in memory of the 10th day of remembrance of 9/11. As planned, the Museum part will open in 2012.
The Memorial has two reflecting pools, each measuring an acre in size and located in the place where the former Twin Towers were present. The memorial also has an artificial waterfall, the largest in North America and over 400 swamp white oak trees around the pools. The bronze panels placed around the pools carry the names of those who lost their lives in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and around 3,000 people who died on 9/11.
Bob McNamara, Lend Lease Americas’ CEO, said that his company is honored and humbled for being selected to construct the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. He said that his team has been at the site from the day one on 0/11/01 and some of his project team members who were present at the site on the fateful day have sweated and poured their hearts in the project. He concluded that the solid dedication and outstanding talents shown by the men have contributed to make the iconic memorial possible.
