A Better House, a Nashville, Tennessee-based integrator of eco-friendly, energy-saving building products and an insulating concrete form (ICF) builder, has recently secured a contract to build the ICF exterior of the new barracks located at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.
A Better House earned the contract through Archer Western Contractors. According to the plan, a three-story building with 284’W by 124’L and roughly 50’ high, as well as a two-story building with 265’W by 122’L and roughly 35’ high will be constructed. The company started its part of the project and is anticipated to complete it in nearly four months.
The entire project is slated for completion by fall of 2012. By utilizing insulating concrete form blocks of 8" of poured concrete flanked by 2" of polystyrene, the new barracks will significantly enhance the health, protection and standard of living of the soldiers.
Resistance to sound, fire, tornado, superior quality of indoor air and elimination of decay, rot and mold are some of the advantages of insulating concrete form buildings over the conventional stick-frame buildings. The new barracks will have high energy efficiency that is far better than the existing building standards.
The President and Chief Executive Officer at A Better House, Tim Hawbaker stated that this is the first building being developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers using insulating concrete forms. The company is happy to partner with the US Army Corps of Engineers in this pioneering facility, he added.
