Thomas Properties Group, a Los Angeles-based full-service real-estate company, has been selected to receive the popular 2011 Calibre Environmental Award. The Calibre committee chose the company for the award in agreement with the International Interior Design Association.
The award recognizes those businesses within the design community who are dedicated towards environmental leadership thus making a reflective impact on the society through their performance. The award recognizes those companies that go beyond just implementing normal sustainable practices in the building construction and create new standards.
Thomas Properties Group experienced the first taste of sustainable building development with the construction of the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) Headquarters in 1998. The building incorporated number of green energy initiatives with cost-effective inclusions to achieve the first LEED EB Platinum for high rise building in the USA. The building located in Sacramento features an ENERGY STAR rating of 99 and saves over $1.4 million in its operating costs every year. Continuing its green initiatives and LEED certified practices, the company has over 10 million sq ft of LEED certified constructions under its fold. The company aims to achieve LEED certification for 100% of all its constructions by the end of the year 2012.
To continue with its green efforts the company has employed a fulltime Sustainability Manager who takes responsibility in coordinating the green initiatives of the company all over the country. Each construction managed by it deploys a green leader to manage and encourage the staff in its green initiatives.
