Caterpillar, has declared its proposals to open up a new production plant in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. The new facility will produce track assemblies and undercarriage components that are used in Cat hydraulic excavators.

The company is planning to commence construction and modification of already existing buildings in 2011 and manufacture from the facility will begin by the middle of 2012.

The proposed production facility will be located in the Economic Development Zone of Xuzhou and occupy an area of around 193,750 FT2. When the plant commences its production in full swing it will provide employment opportunities to around 400 people. The proposed plant is anticipated to have a number of other cost saving gains. It will be located close to the Caterpillar Xuzhou, a hydraulic excavator production facility, thus enabling easy transportation of completed undercarriage components to the machine manufacturing facility to enable final assembly.

According to Stu Levenick, Group President of Caterpillar, who also deals with customer and dealer support, the new facility is one among the planned investments of the company to achieve continued growth and enhance production capability in the Asia and Pacific region. He added, that along with its partnership venture with AsiaTrak, a Tianjin, China based company which is also engaged in the production of track and undercarriage components, Caterpillar is properly positioned to achieve long term requirements of clients in China and Asia/Pacific.
