Nissan Americas and City Ventures Join to Provide Homes with EV Charging Facility

Nissan Americas and eco-friendly home builder City Ventures have declared a joint project of pre-wiring 190 town homes presently under construction for installing chargers for electric vehicles in Southern California. The effort when completed will become the biggest electric vehicle pre-wiring venture for residential constructions in the United States.

The Nissan LEAF -- the first and only 100-percent electric, zero-emission vehicle available to the mass market -- featured adjacent to City Ventures' Signal Hill, CA townhome development.

City Venture will provide pre-wired parking facilities or garages in every housing development provided by it thus enabling uncomplicated setting up of a Level II (240v/40 amp) electric vehicle charging enclosure as recommended for charging Nissan LEAF vehicles at home. Nissan has discussed with City Ventures for the purpose of understanding technical and charging requirements to meet construction requirements satisfactorily and in support of charging habits of clients.

In the first phase of the proposed plan, home owners of City Ventures’ housing constructions at Santa Barbara with 48 homes and 100 parking spaces and Signal Hill with 54 homes and 108 parking lots will be provided with easy to use vehicle charging equipment in single or multi-family garage positions. Such a facility will be included in a mixed home/public garage use with 88 homes and 423 parking spaces in Alhambra a retail layout of the venue. City Ventures has plans to provide similar facilities to its ongoing projects.

According to Herb Gardner, President of Homebuilding in City Ventures', the company aims to provide latest and cost-friendly features in the purchase of green homes by offering electric homes with solar power. He added that pre-wiring a number of dwelling units will allow the home owners a cost effective electric vehicle charging option to charge their Nissan LEAF vehicle. Also the facility will enable them to use their own solar panels to power charge their vehicles.
