Columbus Foods, a San Francisco Bay Area located premium deli meats and authentic Italian salumi making company, has declared the opening of its Hayward, Calif located slicing and packaging facility, built with an investment of $31 million.
The modern facility substitutes its fire ravaged slicing plant at South San Francisco and the building utilized the proceeds of insurance for construction.
The new plant occupying an area of 60,000 sq ft is actually a reconstruction of its present 120,000 sq ft distribution center located at San Antonio Street. The development includes construction of three additional production lines for performing slicing and packaging activities of the ready-to-eat convenient packages. The improvement, which resulted in recruiting of 70 more employees will enable the company to fulfill the growing demand for its products.
In the construction process, Columbus worked along with Stellar, a design and build firm based at Jacksonville, Florida, with proficiency in constructing food manufacturing, packaging and processing facilities. The architectural team of Stellar was involved in formulating the architectural design for the construction, its line layout and building of the project. It also offered suggestions in the equipment purchases.
Columbus in addition to the new facility in Hayward, Cal if also has a production plant in South San Francisco where it produces full range of conventional and artisan salumi and a collection of premium deli meats.
