PeoplesBank, known for its eco -sustainability efforts, has declared the opening of its LEED Silver certified branch at 547, Memorial Avenue in West Springfield earlier this month.
This building happens to be the first LEED certified construction in town and second such facility for the bank in Springfield.
Similar to its other LEED certified branch in Springfield, the new West Springfield branch was built to reduce its bearing on the environment. During the construction process, the bank recycled and utilized around 98% of the old demolished and construction materials instead of sending them to the landfill or incinerator.
The construction included a range of eco-friendly features such as plumbing fixtures that are designed to consume around 40% less water than a similar construction of the same size, HVAC and illuminating systems in the building use energy conserving fixtures and lastly the building has a landscaping feature that endures even drought conditions.
The bank, which has granted over $40 million as funding for renewable energy projects, will utilize the occasion of its LEED certified branch opening to donate around $68,000 towards charitable and civic institutions and to the town of West Springfield for planting trees uprooted by the latest tornado.
