Affirmed Housing Group, a San Diego headquartered housing company, declared that Magnolia Court, an affordable senior living facility, has been granted LEED Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, thus becoming the greenest senior living facility on the West Coast.
Magnolia Court has around 52 apartment homes, which accommodate senior citizens of 55 years or more age from the middle income group.
The Platinum certified building included a number of eco-friendly features such as installation of ENERGY STAR rated appliances and lighting, energy-efficient windows to bring in natural light and air inside the building, and use of low-lead paints that are environmentally friendly. The building incorporates a solar photovoltaic system to supply clean electric power to the apartments and to the common areas and it is fitted with a solar water heating system to supply hot water to the inmates of the building. The building has an underground storm water storage system to store, regulate and use the storm water overflow from the nearby properties. During the construction phase of the building it used materials that were hauled out, treated and produced locally.
The design for the building was provided by Studio E Architects and DeLorenzo offered the required landscape architecture for the construction. BOGC has provided the construction services for the building.
