Turner Construction, declared that it has achieved its 200th LEED certification in the completion of the Yale University Health Center project located in New Heaven, Connecticut. The project has obtained the LEED Gold green certification from the Green Buildings Certification Institute.
The 140,000 sq ft medical facility during the construction phase has used a comprehensive approach in achieving sustainability. The eco-friendly features incorporated in the construction include efficient lighting fixtures and controls to assist energy conservation, installation of tinted glass windows to provide privacy inside the building while improving the penetration of natural daylight and cutting down increased level of sunlight inside the building. The building is fitted with low-flow toilets to cut down the use of flushing water and incorporates a green rooftop garden with self-sufficing plants.
Turner presently has around 230 LEED registered projects under various stages of progress. The projects altogether symbolize around 100 million sq ft of construction space valued over $27 billion. Around 50% of the backlog activity comprise of the green building constructions. The company, which completed $3.6 billion worth green constructions in 2009, has completed $4.2 billion green constructions in 2010.
