The recently opened Building C at the world headquarters of SAS, a provider of business analytics services and software, has been recognized by the US Green Building Council with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for New Construction Platinum certification.
Located in North Carolina’s Wake County, Building C is the fifth building in North Carolina and the first building in Wake County to receive the Platinum award, which is the highest LEED certification.
By constructing an energy-efficient building, SAS made efforts to ensure minimal impact is made on the global resources, especially since commercial buildings in the United States consume 19 % of the energy resources. Building C not only helps SAS to reduce its dependency on resources but it also creates a healthier environment for visitor and employees.
Building C features a cooling system, which utilizes a green roof spread over one acre to filter as well as slow down the run-off rate of stormwater and chillers used in off-peak periods to cool down floor slabs. Additionally, the electricity and hot water in the building is solar-generated. SAS also anticipates that the building use 40% less energy and 50% less water as set by industry standards. The building also features two 20,000 gal cisterns to store rainwater, a stormwater retention pond with 655,000 gal capacity and eco-commuter parking spaces.
