University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors (UMEC), a California-based subsidiary of the EMCOR Group, has been awarded a mechanical, HVAC and plumbing systems installation contract at the San Ysidro Land Point of Entry port of the General Services Administration.
The EMCOR Group is a global Fortune 500 company providing critical energy infrastructure systems, mechanical and electrical construction, and facilities services.
The San Ysidro Land Point of Entry port is situated in San Diego, California and is the world’s busiest land port. In a day, it typically processes around 25,000 northbound pedestrians and 50,000 vehicles, which are also northbound. In order to address the increase in regional growth and traffic volumes, the existing 30-year-old facility is being upgraded to augment the port’s capacity.
The San Ysidro Land Point of Entry contract includes construction of a new Head House Building. The Central Plant is to be equipped with a solar hot water system and a rainwater collection system. The northbound canopies, both the primary and secondary ones are to be constructed. UMEC will also perform the mechanical site work associated with the canopy’s construction. The garage ventilation and space conditioning systems required for the new Narcotics Building will also be constructed by UMEC.
UMEC will provide underground hydronic and plumbing systems according to the agreement. The contractors will also prefabricate and provide primary booths with the latest HVAC and ventilation systems.
