Research has revealed that the art of DIY is vanishing but a Trowbridge developer is recommending homebuyers abandon it altogether to save themselves thousands of pounds.
A report from Standard Life Bank called ‘DIY: A Dying Art’ has revealed that 93 per cent of men in the UK will employ a professional tradesman for handy work around the home this year rather than do it themselves. The report also found that one in four want more spare time and will gladly spend their money on bringing in the professionals to buy themselves some extra minutes in the day.
Andrew Boddie, head of marketing at Standard Life Bank, says: “Many people are opting out of DIY as a lifestyle choice. As quality of finish is important, but can be time consuming, many former DIY-ers are realising that if they pay a professional they can spend more time with their families, socialising or simply relaxing at home.”
At Redrow’s Herons Reach and Rushmead Park developments in Trowbridge you can go one better and buy a brand new home so there is little or no DIY to do for you, or the professionals, and every room comes with a quality finish.
Chris Cockram, sales director for Redrow Homes (South West), says: “The homes at Herons Reach and Rushmead Park could be the perfect antidote for disillusioned DIY-ers looking to hang up their tool belts. “Bringing an old home up to the same standards as a new one can add thousands to the bill and can be very time consuming - especially if you try and do some of the work yourself. This takes into account such items as new wiring, extra roof insulation, adding double glazing and central heating, new kitchen furniture and a modern bathroom suite.
“Buy a new home and all of these things are included. At Herons Reach and Rushmead Park the homes are fresh, ‘untainted’ and offer a blank canvas on which you can stamp your own personality without costly modernisation, repairs or renovation. There’s no living with someone else’s bad taste or your own DIY disasters!”
