DHL declared that its DHL Global Forwarding building in Miami has achieved LEED Commercial Interiors Gold Certification.
The building owned by the industrial real estate company, DCT Industrial, in the City of Doral, in Miami-Dade County is the first ever commercial LEED Gold certified DHL building in the USA. This is the third LEED certified building of DHL in the USA.
The building graded high points in its energy conserving features such as use of lighting systems with reduced levels of mercury and 46% more efficiency, fixing of occupancy sensors in over 95% of the building spaces to switch off light automatically when not in use and installation of Energy Star appliances and equipment all over the building. The low flow water fixtures equipped in the building enabled to save around 32% water. The use of low emitting coatings, paints, sealants, adhesives and carpet systems, enabled the building to maintain the quality of air inside the building. Only composite woods were used in the construction of the building.
The Greenguard certified furniture used in the buildings saves the building users from indoor contaminations and the implementation of an integrated pest management program cuts down the use of chemicals in removing pests.
The energy friendly green features installed outside the building includes landscaping with native plants that do not require much water, changing room and bicycle storage facility to encourage employees to use alternate mode of transports.
