ACH Foam Technologies has supplied its R-Control structural insulated roofing panels (SIP) to the Weld County Middle School project. The panels were made to meet the exclusive architectural features of the roofing sections of the school.
RB + B Architects has designed the school located in Severance, CO and has chosen SIPs for the two-story gable roofs and the rotunda roof to overcome the design challenges such as large vaulted areas and reduce the number of bar joist supports in the exposed structure.
According to Rebecca Spears, architect in RB + B Architects ACH has made available the long spans needed for the project and the supplied SIPs provided enough nailing space for the erection of the beetle-kill pine decking over the required ceiling areas.
Roche Construction, the general contractor for the project has installed the R-Control SIPs for the roofing by utilizing the services of Precision Panel Colorado.
The installers were able to place the 8.25" and 12.25" sized panels easily and quickly in place thus providing an uninterrupted wood facade without thermal breaks between them. The easy to install panels enabled the installers to erect R-Control roof panels in more than 1,500 ft2 area in around 45 minutes. The total project utilized around 11,236 ft2 of SIPs.
