The Westchester Community College (WCC) Gateway Center has recently received LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. STV, a company specializing in engineering, architectural, planning and environmental and building management services, has provided the needed construction management services for the center.
It also performed the role of contract supervisor between other contractors, architect and the college.
The 70,000 square-foot three-story Gateway Center, constructed at a cost of $40 million, has a V-shaped design and comprises computer labs, lecture hall, seminar rooms and class rooms. The Gateway Center incorporates an intricate structural steel framing system and an exterior wall with a cold metal framing. The wall has a field applied vapor barrier. It also features a glass curtain wall with a number of systems and an architectural stone cladding façade. The building design, handled by Ennead Architects, includes green and low-impact development technologies.
The Gateway Center, located in Valhalla, New York, includes efficient storm water management, indoor air quality monitoring and energy-efficient mercury lamps. Most of the construction waste was recycled to reduce environmental impact.
