Habitat for Humanity – New York City, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has announced the completion of dwelling units for 16 low-income families in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York.
Keys were handed over to the members. Every adult member of the 16 families has contributed around 300 h of labor in building the homes.
The $6.8 million project has received funds from corporations, individuals and government that include the New York City Housing Trust Fund, Brooklyn Community Foundation, NYS Affordable Housing Cooperation, New York City Housing Trust Fund, NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal – HOME Program, New York City Capital Funds, and individuals such as Markowitz, Brooklyn Borough President, and Al Vann, NYC Councilmember.
The construction includes four buildings in three different sites. The families that moved into the new dwelling units will earn around 50% to 80% of the area median income of the city and pay approximately 33% of their gross income towards housing expenditures.
