Outokumpu declared that it has been chosen by Börger, a German company to supply stainless steel for constructing tanks that are to be deployed in biogas manufacturing.
The order happens to be the first for its newly launched duplex steel grade product LDX 2404. The company has plans to produce steel needed for the tanks at its production facility in Avesta Sweden.
The LDX 2404 steel is formulated to resist corrosion and provide improved mechanical attributes of steel utilizing a bolting type of construction instead of welding to cut down the thickness of steel plates used for tanks by 25% thus leading to reduction in the weight of the tanks and on-site construction time to provide cost savings.
According to Anders Magnusson, Outokumpu’s Tank Application Manager, the project has the potential to open up new steel markets for the company.
The steel is suitable for construction of tanks, pressure vessels and desalination plants. The Duplex steel grades have less quantity of nickel and more quantity of chrome and nitrogen than the traditional austenitic steel grades.
