Harsco, a globally known engineered products and industrial services providing company, has declared the receipt of a contract valued around $15 million from Saudi Arabia for supplying track maintenance and associated equipment needed for railway track maintenance. The contract is said to be the first and biggest for the company from Saudi Arabia.
Harsco will supply the needed railway track maintenance equipment that will sustain the development of a new North-South Railway project covering around 2,300 kilo meter in Saudi Arabia. The major project valued around $2 billion will connect the phosphate and bauxite reserves located in the north to the processing plants in Jubail located over the Persian Gulf. It will also offer a new rail route to carry passengers and freight. The construction of a railway line connecting North and South is anticipated to induce infrastructure improvement activities in the cities and towns that are located along the rail route.
The company anticipates the present contract to assist its group company, Harsco Infrastructure, which functions in Saudi Arabia through a partnership with Al-Baroom Group, a Jeddah-based company to enlarge its bidding opportunities in the region. Its other company, Harsco Metals business group, serves the steel industry in Saudi Arabia.
