Dominion Homes declared that the LG&E and KU ENERGY STAR New Homes Program has recognized its home construction in the LG&E location as the best predicted energy performance home at the Midwest Regional ENERGY STAR Conference in Lexington, Kentucky.
To achieve the ENERGY STAR mark, the constructed home must conform to stringent specifications for energy efficiency set by the LG&E and KU and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The award acknowledges the accomplishment of Dominion Homes for constructing the best rated LG&E and KU ENERGY STAR New Home in 2010. Homes get an index score of a Home Energy Rating System (HERS), which represents the home efficiency on certain factors such as efficiencies of the equipment used, energy usage and air-tightness. The index scores range from 0 to 100, taking into account the normal electricity usage of homes constructed to 2004 International Residential Code.
A HERS index of 60 will qualify a home as 40% more energy efficient than the reference code home. The home constructed by Dominion Homes achieved a rating of 71, thus making it 29% energy efficient than a new house built to code.
