The groundbreaking ceremony for the new forensic mental health hospital has coincided with the opening of the Penetanguishene's Mental Health Center. The project from now on will be known as Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care.
The proposed forensic hospital will offer a range of psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services for patients with mental disorders and need long term treatment.
The forensic hospital, along with its additional buildings, will substitute and merge the present 20-bed Brebeuf building and 160-bed Oak Ridge facility to provide a bigger and modern treatment facility.
Integrated Team Solutions (ITS), a JV between Fengate Capital Management and EllisDon, has been chosen to provide design, construction and maintenance services and finance for the project. The design for the new healthcare facility was provided by Cannon Design and Honeywell, who will also offer facilities management. National Bank Financial has performed the role of financial advisor to ITS.
The proposed Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care building will be built to meet the design and construction requirements of LEED gold certification. A large portion of the building is anticipated to get completed in late fall of 2013. The medical center will become fully functional in 2014.
