Michael Baker’s engineering division, Michael Baker Jr., has received the Project of the Year Award from the American Society of Highway Engineers Delaware Valley Section.
The award was presented for ‘over $10 million category’ for the recently finished work on Route 202 Section 701 Parkway in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
The project included a four-lane limited access parkway from Welsh Road (State Route 63) to Horsham Road (State Route 463) in Montgomery County. It utilized smart transportation methods and comprehensive street principles to deal with the mobility and congestion problems faced in the corridor.
In addition to planning the bike lane and roadway design, Baker also designed two arch culverts, six new traffic signals, two bridges, 1,200 linear feet of retaining walls, and a shared path measuring two miles for bicyclists and pedestrians. The company has constructed infiltration trenches measuring more than 5,000 linear feet, two trailhead parking areas and 17 bioretention locations and stormwater basins.
