Quadrangle Development, a developer of properties, has declared that the National Place office building measuring 540,000 square foot and located at 1331, Pennsylvania, Avenue, N.W. has achieved LEED Gold Certification provided by the U.S. Green Building Council for the existing building.
The energy efficient and ecologically- friendly building is located two blocks east of the White House in Washington, D.C.
The building was originally constructed in 1983 by Quadrangle as a portion of a mixed project measuring over 1.5 million square foot, which includes building of the JW Marriott Hotel and restoration of the National Theatre. By getting LEED EB certification National Place has become the first ever mixed-use building to get such a certification. The incorporated energy efficient methods recognized for certification include installation of lighting systems that incorporate day-lighting controls, timed shut-off and sensors, installation of individual and governable task lighting to cut down the use of lights and light pollution to the night sky.
The building manages nearly 25% of its energy requirement from renewable energy sources such as biomass, solar and wind or by utilizing energy credits. The underground parking facility cuts down heat islands. For the purpose of cleaning, the building utilizes eco-friendly cleaning products. The building located one block away from the Metro Rail Center facilitates alternative commuting and nearly 75% of the building occupants utilize either the Metro or other non-emission causing transport and the company received maximum points on this category.
