Fluor declared that it has received a six month contract for early engineering works from TATA Steel for its proposed gas-fired power plant to be constructed at IJmuiden in the Netherlands.
The proposed 350 MW plant will utilize the waste process gas from the closely located TATA Steel mill as a fuel to generate electricity and steam that will be delivered back to the plant. The award is evaluated based on the study undertaken by TATA Steel on the configuration arrangements of its boiler and steam turbines.
Fluor has commenced the required design engineering for the proposed plant at its Haarlem Office in the Netherlands, which is located 20 kms away from the proposed TATA project site. The Haarlem Office of Fluor will lead the execution work of the project and it will receive support from its New Delhi office. The company, over a period of six months will call for bids for subcontracts and major equipment and evaluate them to decide on the EPC contract value for the project. The proposed design engineering of the plant will support the construction and commissioning schedule of the project.
The engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) stage of the project is anticipated to begin at the end of 2011. Commercial operation of the power plant is expected to commence in 2015.
